Ellesmere Lodge No 1060 was consecrated in on 18th Jan 1859
Daughter Lodge of Combermere Lodge No: 605 (Birkenhead)
It took place in the Parish Church School Runcorn
The first master was W.Bro Joseph Chrimes
The name Ellesmere is thought to have derived from the 1st Earl of Ellesmere, who was bequeathed the Bridgewater Canal in the will of 3rd Duke of Bridgewater
Runcorn at this time was a small pleasant inland port with a population of 7000 on the South Bank of the river Mersey which provided good fishing including Salmon.
The second meeting was held in the Royal Hotel where all future meetings were held until April 29th 1863.
The Lodge then moved to new lodge rooms in the Freemasons Hall over the Masonic Hotel
In July 1863 the Lodge changed its number from 1060 to 758
This continued until 1932 when this present Masonic Hall opened on York Street
MEETINGS
The Lodge meets on the Third Thursday in the months of March (Installation), April, May, September, October, November, December, January & February.
Rehearsals are usually held on the preceding Tuesday.
SOCIALS
A Ladies Evening is usually held on the last Friday in January.
